About Project
An office with a difference, featuring bespoke touches.

Codemasters is a video game developer and publisher that has been making games for over 30 years. Codemasters produces some of the world’s leading racing games, including the officially licensed F1 series.

The company has three UK studios accommodating around 450 people, as well as locations in Kaula Lumpur and Pune in Asia.

The offices for Codemasters have a range of considerations to take into place, with some areas requiring equipment that is different from standard office environments.

The solution
A range of requirements

We were brought into the project during the early stages of planning, allowing us to offer advice and recommendations based on our 20 years of experience.

Working with Codemasters, a design brief was created that included requirements. This brief specifically requested that no white be used in the office, so we worked with Codemasters to create a suitable palette of colours to be used across all finishes.

Three finishes were selected for all panel products: Concrete, Platinum Oak and Rustic Oak. This was combined with all-black metalwork to create a modern design that worked perfectly with Codemasters’ brand colours.

The mixed functionality of the workspace also meant that we had to carefully consider the loose furniture that would be used – especially the desking solutions. Due to the large amounts of computer and electronic equipment required, desks needed to be sturdy, stable and provide a good level of cable management.

After an extensive client consultation period and pilot schemes, our robust R8 Lite desking system was selected for the project. This system provides a large cable tray system that also acts as a support to the desk frame. We also made use of sliding tops to allow for easy access to cabling, ensuring that all of Codemasters’ requirements were met.

We used our Concrete finish across all desks, along with black metal legs to ensure every aspect of the office fitted with the design brief.

The result
Custom furniture creation

Beyond the desking systems used in the office, we also produced a range of bespoke joinery items that were tailored to meet the client’s specific requirements.

These included a bespoke reception counter, breakout furniture, booth seating, a tiered seating area for team briefings, and wall storage that included lockers. All of these were produced in the three finishes chosen for the project.

On top of the bespoke office furniture, we also produced kitchens. These included bespoke goalpost surrounds in matching finishes in order to suite with the rest of the location’s furniture.

The site conditions for this project provided us with a number of hurdles to overcome. We had to deal with limited access and hiving deliveries and on-site distribution restricted to weekends only.

There was also no lift access and there were stairwell constraints. This meant that all large items had to be delivered in component form and constructed on-site.
